He holds an MBA master’s degree and received a first-class honours (distinction) accreditation for academic research: ‘An investigation into the role and status of reflection and reflective practice on company boards’.
Brand strategy: Chris is an experienced, multi-award-winning brand strategist and advertising-agency leader. CAREER PROFILE
Chris began his career in brand management in the USA. Being exposed to advertising through DDB on Madison Avenue sparked off what became a lifelong passion for creativity and media communication.
Cawley Nea Advertising was launched in 1992 and quickly gained a reputation for strategic insight and creative excellence. Under Chris’s leadership, Cawley Nea became the most highly awarded and creatively successful advertising agency in Ireland, winning the prestigious Advertising Agency of the Year Award in 1999 and the inaugural grand prix award at the IAPI advertising effectiveness awards (AD:FX) in 2000. It maintained the top position in this awards category while Chris was CEO at the agency. Recognising the success of Cawley Nea, Omnicom Inc. (NYC) invested in the agency, leading to the creation of Cawley Nea\TBWA in 2004.
Chris retained his leadership role as CEO at the agency in Ireland and joined his international colleagues on executive management teams in the UK and Europe. Through M&A and entrepreneurial start-ups, Chris worked with his colleagues to establish several top-tier companies in the media, production, creative, and digital marketing industries, including E-Graphic, Agency.com, and the OMG group of companies, where Chris held a board position as a director and chairman. Throughout this period, he gained extensive domestic and international business experience, with executive responsibility in corporate leadership and organisational behavioural change.
Chris is a fellow and past president of the Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland (IAPI), a past council member of The Marketing Society of Ireland, and has served on committees contributing to best practice at The Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII) and the Institute of Directors in Ireland (IOD). Chris has facilitated and campaigned successfully for positive change and progress on various issues of social justice in Ireland. He has been a sought-after commentator among Irish media throughout his career.
